No, I’m not being paid by Krups for this (though I would gladly accept payment).
I am so tired of ugly kitchen appliances. Why is it that in most cases only non-American companies can produce a well built, nicely styled and not excessively plastic appliance? I have seen few non-commercial, attractive blenders. Sure, the KitchenAid Pro Line is nice, as well as L’Equip; but these are a rarity in a world of plasticy, broken buttoned, and foggy plastic jarred blenders. I have been fascinated by Krups appliances for a while, we all know about the coffee makers and grinders but have you ever seen their other appliances?
Krups KB720
If you were basing your decision to purchase a blender on appearance, this one could win. If you are basing it on performance, I can promise it follows through. The general feel of the blender is heavy and utilitarian. It has a die cast metal base and I appreciated that the packaging didn’t need to bring that up every third line, letting me know how stylish and “commercial” the brushed metal look is.
Looks:
The control panel is exactly how I would have designed it. The buttons are: ice crush, veri-pulse, slow, 4 speeds, and off. They are flush with the base, but not the sticky sensor type button you might expect. Each button lights when that mode is in use. The 60oz jar is heavy, and locks into place easily on the base. I also like that the cup in the lid is detachable with 1 and 2 oz measure marks. Everything comes apart very easily for cleaning, unlike blenders I’ve had in the past, there aren’t any nooks or a lip to hold dirt and grime.
Performance:
It is very quiet, even when crushing ice. The crusher mode is fantastic, I can half fill the blender with full size ice cubes, and it will automatically pulse until it reaches the consistency I want. The motor is 1000 watts and really makes this thing feel like a powerful machine when you are using it. It may not be a commercial blender, but I think it is easily comparable to some on the market. On high speeds, sometimes you get a light burning smell which at first concerned me but after some research online, I found out this is normal. The Krups KB720 is priced at around $150. It may seem a little high, but as compared to similar machines it’s worth it. If you are serious about blending, or just want a premium countertop appliance, consider this blender.
